Are you longing to belong to the right pack no matter the cost? Are you willing to give up who you are or give up your values to become someone you’re not just to be the top dog? Not me!
In my world we all want to be the alpha. We all want to stand out. But the truth is as we grow, change and find our own way – at the end of the day, we jump up and down and wag our tails to have a few true friends in our inner pack. True friends that you can trust that will come home at the end of the day and give you a treat. True friends that you can count on with your most precious chew toys and won’t scold you when you make a mess. True friends that will never forget to feed you or cuddle with you.
Who is in your inner pack? What inner pack are you in? Is Jesus considered in your inner pack?
No matter where you are in my world. The alpha dog or one who will sit at your feet or sleep on your pillow like me – Jesus longs to be the center light of your life and the center of your inner pack. If you follow him, you’ll never get lost! But I never get lost because my mom and dad follow Jesus and lead me everyday on a leash. Sometimes they let me take the lead until I run ahead of them and play catch me if you can. I always lose because I forget I’m connected at the end.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV
Life gets crazy and sometimes you just have to sit back and relax. At the end of my day when I’m exhausted, I love to sit by the fire and reflect on what I’ve accomplished. It’s hard work to sit by the window and protect my world. Sometimes I don’t think my mommy and daddy appreciate how much I protect them because they’re always telling me, “Reagan, quit barking. It’s just a dog!” Yeah, well, it might be “just a dog” but it’s a dog walking on my sidewalk! Okay, I can be a little possessive of my property and we won’t talk about what I do to make sure the other dogs know I’m in charge. That’s another thing that drives my parents crazy. I mark my territory.
But here’s the real scoop. God protects all of us in the midst of this crazy world. He is with us wherever we go or whatever we do. So relax. Sit by the fire and enjoy His warmth. P.S. Don’t you love my “doggy” rug? I’ve been told not to chew his ears!
I don’t understand why some dogs don’t like me! I’m always polite and I never try to be an alpha diva. But when I take my mommy for a walk – all the dogs bark at me. There’s like this one doggy diva with white curly hair that loses it when she sees me! She jumps up and down in her window and claws at screen. HELLO! Your mommy or daddy is going to be really mad at you when they see that you’ve scraped the paint off the window seal. Shewww. I just prance by and act like I don’t even notice her.
After thinking about it for a moment – and only a moment since that’s how I live, it all made sense to me. God made me beautiful! I am fearfully and wonderfully made. He says so in Psalm 139:14!
And even though God made me beautiful, I still have to work at it. My beauty secret? Mud baths! It’s AMAZING what it will do for your skin. I love them and take them ever chance I can even though my mommy gets really mad when she sees me. I think she might be a little jealous of my complexion.
And as she bathes me and washes off all the mud, I just look at her with my big brown eyes and think, Mommy, you can be beautiful, too, if you just throw some mud on you!
My birthday is quickly approaching so please mark it on your calendar. January 1. Yes, I will be two years old and I have learned a lot in the past 24 months. I’m such a smart, talented, gifted girl. I’m sure I would be in the gifted obedience class for dogs if they had them.
- I quit squatting everywhere I had the “urge” and now I stand at the door. I wait and wait until someone notices me waiting! Hello – I have to go!
- I can sit, wait, lay down, and drop it – anything for a treat. If a treat is not involved – forget it.
- Walk by my mom or dad on a leash. Like I’m really going to let them get too far away from me.
- I now know Jesus. That’s not surprising if you know my mom and dad.
- I now know not to jump on Nathan. Sheesh, he can be a little moody.
- Run from D’lo.
- I’m a world traveler. I’ve been to Branson, Missouri and the Farm in Franklin.
- I am the protector of our home when my daddy is gone. But if the alarm goes off, I hide behind my mom.
Yes, it has been a great two years and I have a lot to celebrate. I have the best human parents in the world and they love me. But I think I love them more. I still have a few things to learn, but I’m sure I can do it.
P.S. I love toys and treats for my birthday. No pepperoni please. I’m allergic to it and I have sensitive skin. Happy Birthday to me!!
Believe it or not – I get scared of the dark. I know – I like to make others think I’m fearless especially when someone rings the doorbell. I have a fierce bark and my hair hackles stand up. I’ve made grown men back off. Ha. Ha. It’s so funny because I wouldn’t hurt a bug. Well, that’s not true either. Sometimes I eat them!
Back to my point. My daddy takes me walking when he gets home and now it’s dark out. I try to act brave, but everything scares me and I can’t wait to get back to my home. I love to see our porch light shining bright!
I’m trying really hard to be brave on every dark walk and then I remember what Jesus tells us – We are the light of the world and we are not of the darkness. So from now on, I promise to prance during my walks with daddy because I have the porch light shining bright inside of me!
